Description

Walrus Audio's Polychrome flanger is a uniquely colourful pedal that can enhance your guitar parts with inspiring, modulated textures. Boasting an analogue design — capturing the spirit of vintage '70s and '80s flangers — you can easily dial in a wealth of lush tones via the D-F-V (Dry, Flange, Vibrato) blend knob and tactile voice switches.

Key Features

  • Analogue circuitry provides pristine flanger tones that can embellish any guitar part!
  • Blend in dry signal with the D-F-V knob (Dry, Flange and Vibrato).
  • Voice switch offers two different styles of flange (traditional/complex and notched).
  • Select between 3 LFO shapes: sine, triangle or random.
  • From full-dry, to traditional-flange, to full-pitch-vibrato.
  • Rate knob sets LFO from super-slow 0.1 Hz to 8Hz (with rate LED to preview LFO speed).
  • Depth control determines width of filter sweep.
  • Sweep knob shifts frequency range, from deep flange to tight and traditional-tones.
  • Feedback control to set subtle or more dramatic flanging effects.
  • Smart momentary bypass switch (when the bypass switch is in the off position, press and hold to temporarily activate the effect; releasing the switch turns the effect off).
  • Top-mounted jacks allows you to maximise the space on your pedalboard.

Flanger Pedals

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Analogue

Analogue equipment uses continuous electrical signals rather than digital processing to shape and produce sound. In music gear, analogue circuits are found in pedals, amplifiers, and effects that rely on physical components such as transistors, valves, resistors, and capacitors.

Analogue sound is often described as warm, organic, and responsive, with natural saturation and subtle imperfections that react to playing dynamics. It is valued for its feel and character, particularly in overdrive, fuzz, modulation, and classic effects where musical interaction is more important than precision.

Flanger

Flanger is a modulation effect that creates a sweeping, jet-like sound by mixing the original signal with a slightly delayed copy that is continuously modulated. As the delay time changes, it produces a series of moving peaks and notches in the frequency response, giving the effect its distinctive whooshing character.

It is often used to add dramatic movement and texture to guitars, basses, and synthesizers, ranging from subtle shimmer to intense, psychedelic sweeps. Flanger is commonly associated with classic rock and experimental sounds, but it remains widely used wherever bold modulation and motion are wanted.
