Class A/B Power Amp

Yes, Class D amps are have a reputation for efficiency, but many argue that class A/B amps have a certain feel that’s unmistakable. By opting for a class A/B configuration, Orange have ensured that the Pedal Baby retains the dynamics and nuances of your performance. With a single class A front-end, rest assured your tone will sparkle and roar in equal measure – this ain’t no flat-sounding solid-state power amp!

Portable, powerful

At 3kg in weight and just over 30cm long, the Pedal Baby has been forged with the touring musician in mind. Fly dates, lengthy travel commitments, limited set-up time – it ticks all the boxes. In addition, it comes with a 2-band EQ with plenty of cut/boost on tap. At 12 o’clock, the EQ is bypassed for full transparency; tilt it either way and you can colour your tone according to your cab, DI or whatever’s required.

Here’s what Ade Emsley says:

If you’re looking at flying into a festival, backline companies will often have Marshall or Orange amps. Around 80% of them will be 16 Ohms, so with the Pedal Baby, you can turn up with it and some pedals, a guitar, and you can place this on top of the cabs already on stage and have at least 70 Watts out of it clean – so you can easily do a gig with this.

If you have all your sounds dialed in on your pedal board geared up for flying rigs then is is perfect for that too. You can use this in any gigging situation, anything from small clubs to festivals. The front end is Class A and the power amp is Class AB so it’s got a good quality, natural sound and it represents accurately what you put into it.

Amplifier

An amplifier, or amp, is a device that boosts the electrical signal from your guitar to produce sound through speakers. It plays a crucial role in shaping your tone and controlling volume. Amplifiers come in various types, including valve (tube), solid-state, and digital modelling, each offering different sound characteristics. Whether used for practice, recording, or live performance, an amp helps bring your guitar’s voice to life with clarity, power, and personality.

Guitar Amps and Cabs

Guitar amps and cabs are just as crucial to a guitarist’s tone as the guitar itself. Amplifiers shape the sound—whether it’s clean and warm, crunchy and bluesy, or full-on distortion for rock and metal. They come in two main types: combo amps, which include both the amp and speaker in one unit, and amp heads, which are paired with separate cabinets (cabs) to project the sound.

Cabs come in various sizes, like 1×12, 2×12, or the mighty 4×12, each delivering different tone and feel. Speakers, cabinet wood, and even open vs closed backs all influence the sound. Matching the right amp and cab gives players control over their dynamics, tone, and presence—whether you’re playing in your bedroom, a studio, or on a festival stage.
