This isn't just any ordinary solid state amp. The Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit combines the best of tube tone and solid state features together to create one of the German company's most exciting ventures.

That's saying a lot considering the forward thinking ideas they pack into their inspiring range of amps. What sets the Black Spirit apart is the in-depth analysis beyond tube power. H&K bring you the Bionic Tone Generator; digital electronics designed to emulate the way tubes dynamically interact with single circuit sections, transformers, amp stages and speakers.

The results are incredible. The Black Spirit isn't just a copy of a tube amp, but has a sound of its own.

Endless possibilities

And the Black Spirit is no one trick pony. Make use of all four analogue channels; clean, crunch, lead and ultra, to get absolutely any sound you want. Be it crystal clear cleans, classic rock overdrive or tight modern metal chugs. This encapsulates every tone you've heard from Hughes and Kettner over the last 60 years. You'll experience a dynamically rich, organic and tactile tone from the get-go.

In-depth EQ controls add another layer of experimentation. Presence, resonance and sagging flesh out your tone in unique ways. For the first time in an analogue amp, you can adjust the amount of power amp sag. This lets you dictate the creaminess or growl of your tone to vary the drop in power supply voltage when spiking transient signals hit the output stage.

It's also packed with a massive variety of effects, easily accessible through multi-function EQ dials. This saves you carrying round a huge amp head with individual knobs for every setting. You'll discover the likes of reverb, delay and authentic modulations such as chorus, tremolo, phaser and flanger. Mix and match all EQ and effects settings, then save and recall your presets to the MIDI footswitch with the push of a button.

Amazing tones with or without mics

A huge benefit of the Black Spirit is the award-winning Red Box speaker cab emulator. This delivers the best industry standard emulations available, with 10 settings to choose from. Not only does this cut out the hassle of speakers by letting you plug into a mixer or P.A, but sounds amazing too.

If you are a traditionalist and want to stick with the speakers, the Black Spirit can hook up to any amount of cabs at any size between 8 and 16 ohms without hassle. You could also plug into an FRFR cabinet and select a speaker emulation to take full control of what the amp has to offer. There are loads of possibilities.

Switch between 2, 20 or 200 Watt modes for playing at bedroom levels to those stage-worthy gigs for massive headroom. And don't forget any tones again with the compatible Hughes and Kettner app that allows you to access any of your save. Please read more for images, details and to place an order.

Amp

An amp, short for amplifier, is a crucial piece of equipment that boosts the signal from your guitar or other instruments, allowing you to control volume and shape your tone. Guitar amps come in various styles, including valve (tube), solid-state, and digital modelling, each offering unique sound characteristics. Whether you’re practicing at home, recording in the studio, or playing live, the right amp can make all the difference in achieving your desired sound—from clean and crisp to rich overdrive and distortion.

Black

Black is a classic and versatile colour choice for guitars, amps, pedals, and accessories. It’s sleek, timeless, and suits every style—from understated elegance to full-on rock attitude. Whether you’re after a high-gloss finish on a guitar, a rugged black amp for the stage, or matching accessories, this category brings together all things black in the world of music gear. Ideal for those who prefer a bold, professional look that never goes out of style.

Guitar Amps

Guitar amps are essential for shaping and amplifying your sound, whether you’re playing electric, acoustic, or bass guitar. They come in various types—valve (tube), solid-state, and digital modelling—each offering different tonal characteristics and features. From compact practice amps to powerful stage-ready combos and heads with matching cabs, this category covers all your amplification needs. We stock a wide range from trusted brands, offering everything from clean tones to all-out distortion, perfect for home practice, recording, or live performance.

Head Amplifier

A head is the amplifier unit of a guitar rig that contains the electronics responsible for shaping and boosting your guitar’s signal. Unlike combo amps, a head does not include built-in speakers and needs to be connected to a separate speaker cabinet. This setup offers greater flexibility, allowing players to mix and match different heads and cabinets to tailor their tone and volume. Heads come in various types, including valve (tube), solid-state, and modelling, catering to a wide range of sounds and playing styles.
