Although many players believe that the core of their tone comes from their amplifier, the influence that a guitar cabinet has over your sound as a whole is often under-appreciated. That's why it's important to ensure that your cabinet features high-quality speakers and is constructed from only the finest timbers. And the Hamstead 1×12 Amp Cabinet epitomises both of those essential qualities.

Celestion Speaker

Celestion speakers are the industry standard within the amp market, and the Hamstead 1×12 cab is fitted with their iconic Creamback G12M-65 driver. Developed in the mid-60s, this legendary speaker was popularised by famous artists of the era, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

Delivering a vintage-voiced tone, this speaker provides balanced lows and a warm mid-range, with plenty of bite and clarity in the highs. Power any amplifier through this cabinet, and you'll undoubtedly attain remarkable results.

Construction

The Hamstead 1×12 cabinet is formed from Marine-Grade Birch Ply, a bright-sounding tonewood that gets the most out of the versatile Celestion speaker. Slightly over-sized to achieve a fuller sound, the amount of volume projected from this cabinet is incredible despite its single 12" speaker.

Even with its slightly larger size compared to conventional 1×12 cabs, this Hamstead cab is still highly-portable and easy to transport to recording sessions or gigs.

Amp

An amp, short for amplifier, is a crucial piece of equipment that boosts the signal from your guitar or other instruments, allowing you to control volume and shape your tone. Guitar amps come in various styles, including valve (tube), solid-state, and digital modelling, each offering unique sound characteristics. Whether you’re practicing at home, recording in the studio, or playing live, the right amp can make all the difference in achieving your desired sound—from clean and crisp to rich overdrive and distortion.

Cabinet

A cabinet, often referred to as a speaker cabinet, is a standalone enclosure that houses one or more speakers. It is used in conjunction with an amplifier head to produce sound in an electric guitar setup.

Guitar Amps and Cabs

Guitar amps and cabs are just as crucial to a guitarist’s tone as the guitar itself. Amplifiers shape the sound—whether it’s clean and warm, crunchy and bluesy, or full-on distortion for rock and metal. They come in two main types: combo amps, which include both the amp and speaker in one unit, and amp heads, which are paired with separate cabinets (cabs) to project the sound.

Cabs come in various sizes, like 1×12, 2×12, or the mighty 4×12, each delivering different tone and feel. Speakers, cabinet wood, and even open vs closed backs all influence the sound. Matching the right amp and cab gives players control over their dynamics, tone, and presence—whether you’re playing in your bedroom, a studio, or on a festival stage.
