Description

As the co-founder, vocalist and multi-instrumental of the legendary alt rock band Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon carved out a boundary-pushing sound with unconventional bass and guitar work across alternative tunings, providing noise and texture to the effortlessly cool aesthetic of the eighties avant-garde band. The limited-edition Kim Gordon signature Jazzmaster is a sleek encapsulation of those grungy, thick sounds she’s harnessed as part of Sonic Youth and in her own Grammy-nominated solo projects, having previously used Jaguar, Mustang and Jazzmaster guitars throughout her career. Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups Kim decided to replace the stock bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 crafted in their Santa Barbara, CA factory. This is one of the most iconic hot-rodded humbuckers ever created – a real modern classic used throughout blues, fusion, punk and hard rock music. It produces a fiery, high output sound with an upper-midrange bump and a hell of a lot of sustain and juicy harmonics. A Fender Jazzmaster single-coil sits in the neck position, which brings a warmth and smoothness that’s still tighter and more defined than a neck humbucker. You get the best of both worlds with this pickup configuration: strength from the bridge, mellow, rounder tone from the neck. This particular Jazzmaster ditches the rhythm circuit it’s most well known for in favour of a simpler master volume and tone control layout, with more of a focus on getting the most out of the natural tones brought by brilliant Seymour Duncan JB and jazzy single-coil. Floating tremolo tailpiece and Mustang saddles A bit of a Frankenstein’s creation, the floating tailpiece offers the smooth, slick vibrato for all your alternative rock warbling while the six-saddle Mustang bridge piece features a single-groove barrel design to keep the strings exactly where they’re meant to be as you dig in with heavier pick attack. Although a fun mishmash of styles, it does a proper job to bring you both the expressive creative choices you get with a floating tailpiece and solid intonation and tuning stability. Effortlessly cool style The Kim Gordon Jazzmaster is full of swagger in its clean Olympic White finish paired with 3-ply black/white/black pickguard, a matching headcap and stunning block pearloid inlays starting on the first fret. On the back of the headstock is Kim’s signature alongside Fender’s ultra smooth ClassicGear tuners for easy finetuning. The neck is Fender’s easy-playing modern “C” profile paired with the balanced 9.5-inch radius and goldilocks medium nut width, all making for a beautifully balanced instrument that feels right up to date with the best the massive guitar builders offer.Key Features Capturing the cool style of Sonic Youth multi-instrumentalist Kim Gordon Thick, dominating Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 humbucker and mellower Player Alnico V Jazzmaster single-coil pickups Maple neck with modern “C” profile designed for supremely comfortable performance with silky smooth back finish 9.5“-radius rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges and white pearloid block inlays Innovative floating Jazzmaster bridge for smooth vibrato, while the plated brass Mustang saddles keep the strings tightly tuned SpecificationsBody Body: Alder Body Finish: Gloss Polyester Body Shape: Jazzmaster Body Style: Solid Body Body Material: Alder Neck Headstock: Jazzmaster Neck Material: Maple Neck Finish: Satin Urethane Finish on Back of Neck with Gloss Urethane Headstock Face Neck Shape: Modern “C” Neck Construction: 4-Bolt Standard Fingerboard Radius: 9.5″ (241 mm) Fingerboard Material: Slab Rosewood: Position Inlays: White Pearloid Block Side Dots: White Number of Frets: 22 Truss Rod: Single Action, Head Adjust Truss Rod Nut: 3/16″ Hex Adjustment String Nut: Synthetic Bone Nut Width: 1.650″ (42 mm) Nut Mate…

Jazzmaster

The Fender Jazzmaster was designed in the late 1950s for jazz players but quickly found fame in surf, alternative, and indie rock. Its offset body offers great comfort when seated, while the unique floating tremolo and wide single-coil pickups create warm, chimey tones with plenty of character. The rhythm and lead circuit switching opens up a world of tonal options. Loved by players who like to stand out — from surf pioneers to shoegaze icons — the Jazzmaster is all about individuality and feel.
