Here’s what Fender say about the Duff McKagan P Bass

The Duff McKagan Deluxe Precision Bass is based on the ‘80s Jazz Bass Special he used while recording Appetite for Destruction. An evolution of his signature model, this bass adds player-friendly features and stylistic touches that Duff demands.

The black-painted “Modern C”-shaped quartersawn maple neck has a “Deluxe Jazz Bass Special” headstock logo and hosts a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, along with the number “12” at the twelfth fret. A must-have for live performance, the Hipshot® Bass Xtender allows instant drop-tuning with the flick of a lever. Duff’s signature sound comes from pairing a Fender vintage-style Precision Bass split-coil pickup with a Seymour Duncan® STKJ2B Jazz Bass single-coil bridge pickup. This thunderous tone can be shaped precisely by the Fender TBX™ (Treble/Bass Expander) tone circuit.

Additional features include a Pure Vintage ‘70s bridge and, as a special touch, a Duff skull n’ crossbones neck plate. Includes deluxe gig bag.

Bass Guitars

The bass guitar is the backbone of many musical styles, delivering the low-end power that holds everything together. Designed to play deep, resonant notes, it typically has four strings—though five- and six-string models are also popular—and comes in both fretted and fretless versions. Bass guitars can be electric or acoustic, with solid or hollow bodies, and are used across genres from rock and funk to jazz and reggae. In this category, you’ll find a wide selection of bass guitars to suit all levels, from beginner to pro, each built to provide great tone, feel, and reliability.

Deluxe

A deluxe guitar might have higher-quality pickups, special finishes, or finer craftsmanship, while a deluxe edition of an album could include bonus tracks or special packaging. The word suggests something that’s a step above the basic.

Precision Bass

A Precision Bass, often called a P-Bass, is a type of electric bass guitar first introduced by Fender in 1951. It was the world’s first mass-produced solid-body electric bass and revolutionised music by allowing bassists to play with greater volume and precision than the upright bass. Known for its split single-coil pickup (introduced in 1957), the P-Bass delivers a warm, punchy tone that suits a wide range of genres, from rock and punk to soul and funk. Its simple, ergonomic design, typically with one pickup and two knobs (volume and tone), has made it a favourite among countless bass players for decades due to its reliability, powerful sound, and comfortable feel.

signature

These products often feature customised specifications, unique aesthetics, or special features that reflect the artist’s personal style and sound preferences. Signature gear allows fans and players to access the tones and playability inspired by their favourite players, offering a distinct and personalised musical experience.
