The Arrows pedal is a simple all-analogue preamp booster pedal that's been designed to work with other dirt pedals to give them another channel of dirt. The intention was to brighten the sound of dark and muddy sounding humbucker pickups.

The Arrows V2 has had a few minor tweaks and upgrades that make the pedal more useable than ever before. The V2 pedal boosts the mid-range and tightens up low-end better than before. It's also got silent soft-touch switching meaning you won't get any nasty pops or noises from the switch going through to the amp. It also has the standard top-mounted jacks for easy pedal board integration.

The single knob approach to this pedal means it's easy to dial dirt onto your signal. Turning the knob up will increase gain, tighten up the low-end and allow your sustain to bloom with excellent harmonic response.

Here's what EarthQuaker Devices say about the Arrows V2

Preamp Booster

The Arrows V2 is an all-discrete tone sculpting preamp booster. It was designed with the intention of adding an additional channel of gain to all your dirt pedals as well as brightening up neck pickups.

• Preamp Booster pedal – Built on all-discrete analog circuitry
• Designed to be stacked; Adds additional gain channel to dirt pedals
• Dirt-simple to use – One knob to rule them all!
• Brightens dark sounding neck pickups
• Boosts midrange and tightens up low-end
• True bypass – Silent soft-touch switching
• New enclosure w. Top-mounted jacks – for effortless pedalboard implementation

The Arrows V2 boosts midrange, tightens up the low end and makes the top end shine while adding some push to drive your dirt into blooming sustain with excellent harmonics.

Its simple interface is no nonsense; a single control that will either boost or cut your signal. While the new V2 enclosure, with its top-mounted jacks, make fitting the pedal even into the most crowded pedal board a breeze.

Use the Arrows V2 to remove the muck from bass heavy fuzz pedals, push light overdrives into higher gains than you thought possible or even on its own to make your signal really pop with more pizazz.

All analog, true bypass and handmade one at a time in the weird pit of Akron, Ohio.

Analog

Analog guitar pedals are known for their warm, organic, and often slightly “imperfect” sound characteristics. They can add harmonic richness, subtle saturation, and musicality to the guitar signal, which many players find appealing. Analog pedals often have a more straightforward operation and tend to interact more dynamically with the player’s touch and guitar’s volume and tone controls.

However, analog pedals can also be more prone to noise, have limited control options compared to digital counterparts, and may lack features like preset storage or advanced modulation effects. Nevertheless, many guitarists prefer analog pedals for their vintage tone, simplicity, and the tactile experience they provide.

Examples of popular analog guitar pedals include the Ibanez Tube Screamer (overdrive), Electro-Harmonix Small Clone (chorus), and MXR Phase 90 (phaser).

Arrows

booster

Booster pedals give your signal the extra push it needs to stand out, whether for searing solos or driving your amp into sweet overdrive. Designed to increase volume and presence without colouring your tone (unless you want them to), boosters let you add dynamic range and clarity to your playing. Compact and versatile, they’re perfect for cutting through the mix or adding subtle grit. From clean, transparent boosts to more aggressive gain lifts, a booster pedal is an essential tool for any guitarist seeking control and expression.

pedal

A pedal is a compact device that guitarists use to alter their instrument’s sound by shaping effects such as distortion, delay, reverb, and modulation. Typically housed in a rugged enclosure and controlled by footswitches, pedals are designed to be placed on the floor for hands-free operation during playing. They can be analogue or digital, true bypass or buffered, and come in countless varieties to suit different styles and preferences. Pedals are essential tools for creating signature tones and adding colour and texture to a guitarist’s sound.

Preamp

A preamp (preamplifier) is the first stage in your guitar signal chain that takes the weak signal from your guitar and boosts it to a usable level for shaping tone and driving the power amp.

It’s where much of your tone is formed—controlling gain, EQ, and character. In valve (tube) amps, the preamp stage is what gives you that classic warmth and breakup when pushed. In modern rigs, standalone preamp pedals or rack units can mimic classic amp tones or create entirely new ones. Whether in a studio or live setup, a good preamp is the heart of your sound.
