The Darkglass Vintage Microtubes is the essence of great rock bass tones put in a single drive pedal. With a simple 4 knob control setup this powerful not overly saturated bass overdrive can go from a very light boost to heavy rock bass with the thundering lows of an array of 8×10″ cabs.

70’s, 80’s, or 90’s

One of the things that makes this pedal a great choice is the use of the Era control. When dialed down you get the sound of the 70’s with a bit lower output. Turn it up and you start to fill a bit more of the heat as you go through the 80’s and 90’s with more agressive bass styles coming through. Overdriven bass can be used for almost any style so having a pedal that can dial in the perfect amount at a moments notice is a great option for those who are not set in one style.

Four Simple Controls

With a bass overdrive like this you don’t want anything too complicated. You already have a great clean tone you love, you just a way of getting that supper powerful low end thunder out of what you currently have. So that is why DarkGlass kept this nice and simple with just level, drive, blend and era controls. The Era control we explained above and it is fairly simple to work out the rest.

The interesting part is the use of a Level and Blend control which lets you set the output level of the pedal and also how that blends in with the clean signal. This is for that extra level of control that is really hard to get with a single volume or blend control set up and is perfect for making sure everything sits in the mix perfectly.

Here’s what Darkglass say about the VIntage Microtubes

The Microtubes Vintage is our tribute to some of the most legendary sounds in rock history. It provides warm tube-like tones with a natural dynamic response that echoes the organic compression of old tube amps and reel-to-reel tape machines.

Guitar FX

Guitar FX (effects) refer to the wide range of pedals and processors that shape and manipulate a guitar’s signal to create different sounds. From classic distortion and overdrive to reverb, delay, modulation, and pitch-shifting, effects are at the heart of a guitarist’s creative toolkit. Whether analogue or digital, stompbox or multi-effects unit, Guitar FX allow players to express mood, texture, and dynamics in unique ways. Used thoughtfully, they can transform a simple riff into something atmospheric, aggressive, or entirely otherworldly.

Overdrive

Overdrive is a type of guitar effect that simulates the natural distortion that occurs when a tube amplifier is pushed beyond its clean limit. Overdrive pedals achieve this by boosting the input signal of the guitar, causing the amplifier to saturate and produce a warm, saturated, and crunchy sound.

Overdrive pedals are commonly used in various styles of music, including rock, blues, and punk, to add grit, sustain, and harmonic richness to the guitar’s sound. They are versatile tools that can be used to achieve a wide range of tones, from subtle breakup to full-on distortion, depending on the settings and the amplifier being used. Some classic examples of overdrive pedals include the Ibanez Tube Screamer, the Boss OD-1, and the Fulltone OCD, among others

pedal

A pedal is a compact device that guitarists use to alter their instrument’s sound by shaping effects such as distortion, delay, reverb, and modulation. Typically housed in a rugged enclosure and controlled by footswitches, pedals are designed to be placed on the floor for hands-free operation during playing. They can be analogue or digital, true bypass or buffered, and come in countless varieties to suit different styles and preferences. Pedals are essential tools for creating signature tones and adding colour and texture to a guitarist’s sound.

Vintage

A vintage guitar is a guitar that is considered to be of significant age, typically over 30 years old, and often possesses historical, cultural, or collector’s value. Vintage guitars are highly sought after by collectors, musicians, and enthusiasts for their craftsmanship, tone, playability, and historical significance.

Vintage guitars can come from various eras, each with its own unique characteristics and desirability.

Vintage guitars often exhibit signs of wear and aging, which can add to their character and authenticity. However, originality, condition, and provenance are crucial factors that determine the value of a vintage guitar. Well-maintained and all-original vintage guitars with documented history and provenance tend to command higher prices on the collector’s market.

While vintage guitars can be valuable investments, they are also cherished for their playability and the unique sonic characteristics they offer. Many musicians prefer vintage instruments for their mojo, vibe, and connection to music history.
