Description

First introduced in 1932, the L-00 has remained the most well-known and popular small-body acoustic model in Gibson’s illustrious history. The new L-00 Special is crafted by Gibson’s expert acoustic luthiers in Bozeman, Montana, and offers players a USA-built Gibson acoustic guitar at a very accessible price. The L-00 Special is constructed using genuine, solid mahogany for the back and sides and has a solid Sitka spruce top with our traditional scalloped X-bracing for a balanced tone with excellent dynamic range for a small-bodied acoustic. Both the top and back feature single-ply binding around the perimeter. The narrower waist of an L-00 body shape provides a focused and nuanced sound, naturally giving it a leaner and tighter bass response that sits perfectly in the mix.

Key Features

  • Classic Design – Beautifully crafted in the USA, the Gibson Montana Special L-00 perfectly encapsulates the tone, feel and look of one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable acoustics ever designed!
  • All-Solid – Crafted with a solid Sitka Spruce top with solid Mahogany back and sides in combination with an Utile neck with Rosewood fingerboard, the Gibson Montana Special Series offers a bright and bold tone with an exceptionally full sound and rich sustain.
  • L.R. Baggs Element Bronze – Built to capture the full spectrum of warmth, articulation, dynamics, power and sensitivity found in high-end acoustics, the L.R. Baggs Element under-saddle transducer with soundhole-mounted volume control is the perfect onstage solution for any performance.

Montana Special

The tone is ideal for fingerstyle playing and blues and works very well for other genres and playing styles, too. The utile neck is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint, and like all Gibson acoustic guitars, it is affixed with hot hide glue. The neck has a comfortable and fast-playing SlimTaper profile, and the rosewood fretboard has a 12″ radius and is adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays and is fitted with 19 standard frets. The closed slot rectangular rosewood bridge is equipped with a TUSQ saddle, and the nut and bridge pins are also TUSQ. Smooth turning Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners ensure solid tuning stability. The L-00 Special is finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer in your choice of Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red. It comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup and active preamp with an easy-to-access soundhole-mounted volume control, so it’s stage and studio-ready from the moment you take it out of the included premium soft-shell case.

They retain the natural acoustic tone and feel of a traditional acoustic guitar while adding the convenience of onboard electronics.

They are commonly used for live performance and recording, especially in situations where consistent volume and clarity are needed. Electro-acoustic guitars often include controls for volume and tone, and sometimes built-in tuners, making them a practical choice for gigging musicians who want an acoustic sound with modern flexibility.
