Arguably one of the most popular and acclaimed acoustic guitars, the Gibson 1942 Banner J-45 Light Aged in Vintage Burst has been carefully crafted by the Murphy Lab custom shop luthiers to deliver you a true classic of the guitar world. Fantastically finished in a thermally aged Adirondack Red Spruce top that has been hand sprayed to give you a history looking burst.

The Mahogany body projects a rich, warm, and full body tone that J-45’s is known for, supported using hot hide glue in the top bracing that provides a greater tonal response. The “Historic” profile neck emulates the chunky feel of a “V” shape that is accurately carved to emulate the original 1940’s J-45. The ‘baseball bat’ feeling neck is perfect for players with bigger hands, but it also provides great comfort for wider support moving up and down the neck for articulate fingerstyle playing.

Key Features

  • Murphy Lab Treatment – The best craftsmanship Gibson has to offer, the hand-crafted J-45 in a light aged finish provides the most accurate production of the acoustic guitar since it graced the stage back in 1942.
  • Articulate Acoustic Projection – Classic dreadnought shape produces warm, rich, and full-bodied tone thanks to the Mahogany body and Red Spruce top, complimented with the use of hot hide glue for better tonal response.
  • Chunky Neck Profile – The historically accurate “V” shape neck profile gives you that ‘baseball bat’ feeling found on early Gibson guitar models.

Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic guitars produce their sound naturally through the vibration of the strings and body, offering a direct and expressive playing experience. They come in a wide range of styles, including steel string and classical designs, each with its own feel and tonal character. Body shape, wood choice, and construction all influence warmth, projection, and balance, making acoustics suitable for everything from gentle fingerstyle to confident strumming. Whether used for songwriting, practice, or performance, acoustic guitars provide a simple, honest connection between the player and the music.

Guitars

Guitars cover a wide range of instruments designed to suit different styles, techniques, and sounds, from acoustic and classical models to solid body, semi-hollow, and hollow electric designs. Factors like body shape, scale length, neck profile, string type, and pickups all influence how a guitar feels and responds, making each type suited to different players and musical approaches. Whether used for rhythm, lead, songwriting, or experimentation, guitars are expressive, versatile instruments that form the heart of countless genres and playing styles.

Steel String Acoustic Guitars

Steel string acoustic guitars are known for their bright, clear tone and strong projection, making them a popular choice for strumming, fingerpicking, and songwriting. Using steel strings gives them more tension and volume than classical guitars, resulting in a sound that cuts through well whether played solo or alongside other instruments. They come in a range of body shapes and sizes, each influencing balance, resonance, and comfort. From delicate fingerstyle passages to powerful rhythm playing, steel string acoustics are versatile instruments that respond well to dynamics and playing style, both at home and on stage.
