The Cali-born Performer Mustang is an elegant retro vibe guitar of pro quality. Fender have equipped the Performer range to deal with the rough and tumble of touring and years of ownership.

Made in the USA, the Performer Mustang is kitted out with awesome Yosemite single-coil pickups, designed for rich, expressive tone.

Body and Neck

The American Performer is built using a lightweight Alder body and sturdy Maple neck, cut in a streamlined ‘C’ shape. Players after modern playability combined with classic looks will feel at home on the Performer Mustang.

Its 9.5” radius Rosewood fretboard is a standard Fender appointment. Anyone with experience of playing a similar American-made guitar will recognise the gentle curvature, in contrast to the retro aesthetic. The 24” scale length allows for extremely expressive string bends and vibrato. Finished with 22 Jumbo frets that make for an effortless playing experience.

Sound

The Performer Mustang comes into its own thanks to the unique, crisp and soulful-sounding Yosemite pickups. Flat, staggered pole pieces increase the output of the Yosemites, while the shellac potting lets the coils breathe and keeps feedback under control. Suitable beyond just vintage music genres.

Under the hood you’ll find Fender’s Greasebucket tone circuitry. This lets you shape your highs without adding bass. The Mustang is way more versatile than the student guitar it was originally designed to be.

Hardware

Fender decided to alter the tremolo bridge with grooved saddles that keep the strings exactly where they’re meant to sit. The Performer Mustang holds tuning extremely due to the design update, as well as the synthetic bone nut and in-house made tuning gear.

American

Made in the USA or designed in an American style, often associated with qualities like craftsmanship, heritage, or a particular sound linked to American music traditions.

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibrations into an electrical signal, which is then amplified. Unlike acoustic guitars, they rely on amplification for volume and tone shaping, making them highly versatile in genres like rock, blues, jazz, and metal. Electric guitars come in many body styles—solid, semi-hollow, and hollow—and feature different pickup configurations, neck types, and hardware. From smooth clean tones to aggressive distortion, they offer a wide sonic range, making them the backbone of modern guitar music.

Mustang

The Mustang is a model of electric guitar designed and manufactured by the American company Fender. Introduced in 1964, the Fender Mustang was initially marketed as an entry-level instrument aimed at student musicians, but it later gained popularity among alternative rock, indie, and punk musicians for its unique features and distinctive sound.

The Fender Mustang has been used by numerous influential musicians over the years, including Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and Adrian Belew of King Crimson. Its unique features, distinctive sound, and affordable price point have made it a popular choice among players and collectors alike, cementing its status as a classic in the world of electric guitars.

Vintage

A vintage guitar is a guitar that is considered to be of significant age, typically over 30 years old, and often possesses historical, cultural, or collector’s value. Vintage guitars are highly sought after by collectors, musicians, and enthusiasts for their craftsmanship, tone, playability, and historical significance.

Vintage guitars can come from various eras, each with its own unique characteristics and desirability.

Vintage guitars often exhibit signs of wear and aging, which can add to their character and authenticity. However, originality, condition, and provenance are crucial factors that determine the value of a vintage guitar. Well-maintained and all-original vintage guitars with documented history and provenance tend to command higher prices on the collector’s market.

While vintage guitars can be valuable investments, they are also cherished for their playability and the unique sonic characteristics they offer. Many musicians prefer vintage instruments for their mojo, vibe, and connection to music history.
